For those that care- an explanation of what that weird little door in my kitchen is:
The house I grew up in, was built in the time when people still had milk delivered to their houses. As a “modern convenience” this house featured a little door on the side of it, that opened to a small cubby type space where the milk could be placed (instead of sitting by your door to possibly get kicked over or stolen or something).This same cubby space had yet another identical door that opened to the kitchen, so the 50’s housewife that lived there could take the milk bottles in and leave empties for pick up, without ever having to leave her kitchen or have sordid affairs w/ the milk man. I’m sure it must’ve been wonderful at the time.
However, by the time my family moved in there was no use for such a thing, and my Father nailed it shut. I think he was concerned that anorexic burglars could use it as a way to get in the house or something. This ended up being a very good decision, as by the time I reached toddler age I had become pretty much obsessed w/ the concept of magic and passageways to other worlds (thanks old Disney “Alice in Wonderland” VHS) and when my child’s brain became aware of the existence of a child-sized, oddly placed door in my house, I was CONVINCED it lead to somewhere amazing and wonderful, and had I been capable of opening it I would have inevitably tumbled through it headfirst and cracked my skull on the driveway pavement outside. So, parenting win for my Dad I guess…
